When voicing the character, MacFarlane speaks in a swish accent intended to resemble Paul Lynde (who played Uncle Arthur in Bewitched). Aside from catalyzing the plot or subplot with his various personas, and despite his increasingly evident self-interest, he often serves to counsel the show's main characters, by humorously affirming or bluntly disregarding their opinions. This also helps to amplify his pansexuality and androgynous nature, which varies dependent on the plot situation and persona he has adopted. Roger's personas have become a major plot device, with his myriad of alter egos frequently being the subject or facilitator of an episode's main story or subplot. This restriction was soon abandoned and Roger begins adopting disguises and fictitious personas in order to have a life outside the house. In early episodes of the show, Roger was disallowed from leaving the Smith house in order to conceal his being an alien. His most frequent relationships being the ones with Stan, who despises Roger for his annoying antics despite the fact that he saved his life Klaus, who is Roger's frenemy and Steve, who is Roger's best friend and his usual partner in most of their misadventures around the country. Due to that, Roger does have a love-hate relationship with the Smith family, who care about him despite being his most frequent victims. Over time, the character has also exhibited increasingly sociopathic, cruel, selfish, devious, and depraved behaviors. Roger is usually insensitive and careless, and often takes advantage of, cheats, and ridicules people. Having lived on Earth since crashing in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, Roger came to live with the Smiths after rescuing main character Stan Smith at Area 51 four years prior to the beginning of the series. Roger is a 1,601 year-old grey space alien living with the Smith family. Roger Smith is a fictional character in the adult animated sitcom American Dad!, created, voiced, and designed by Seth MacFarlane.Ultimately, it's not even Stan who beats him in either episode, with Tearjerker meeting his end through his own incompetence or disloyalty. Tearjerker has all the classic makings of a Bond villain: There's the over-the-top name, the striking visual appearance, the extravagant secret hideout (a luxury fortress built into the side of a volcano with his face etched into the side), and the overly complex plan for world domination. Despite seemingly dying at the end of the episode, Tearjerker reappears in "For Black Eyes Only" as a reluctant ally to Stan - that is, until he betrays him and sides with the episode's main villain. In the first episode he appears in, Tearjerker's evil plan is to make the saddest movie ever made in the hope that audiences will cry themselves to death (as revenge for Tearjerker not being taken seriously when he tried to make it as an actor). Evil than he is 007's archenemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld. In terms of personality and appearance, Tearjerker is more along the lines of Dr. It's always a wild ride when Roger is in charge, and here, it's no different - Pequeño remains one of Roger's most corrupt officials yet. As Pequeño, Roger regularly abused his office for his own gain, having servants severely punished over minor infractions (such as improperly buffed floors or poorly-made desserts). During his time in office, he changes the island's name to Bananarama, switches the national anthem to "Venus," and orders the citizens to paint the entire island yellow - only to change his mind halfway through and order it to be painted turquoise instead.Īs we mentioned while discussing Roy Rogers McFreely, things tend to get out of hand quickly when Roger is placed in a position of authority. ![]() ![]() When Roger discovers Stan's deception, he decides to stay on Isla Island, becoming yet another corrupt ruler. When the real Pequeño is accidentally killed while spending time with Stan, the CIA man tricks Roger into playing him, a way to ensure that the United States gains access to Isla Island's lucrative oil reserves through an international treaty. ![]()
